I'm still having issues with my art, but it's about time I sucked it up and just kept drawing. You awesome dudes won't defriend me for my shitty drawings will youuu 8D

I was converting one of my oldest undrawn comic scripts to a kinetic novel yesterday and everything was going swimmingly until I realised I hadn't finished rewriting said script last time I touched it about four years ago. Can't remember where I put my original text file either, but I bet it's still backed up on my G4 which is off in the spare room.
HOW DOES THE STORY END OH GOD?! I could just make up an ending, but I'll probably dust off the G4 this week just to see what I originally wrote. Chances are it will be a total riot because I first wrote that script when I was 17 and it has a wonderfully hysterical weeaboo quality to it that I simultaneously regret and look back fondly on. Yes, this script is more than ten years old. Shut up it'll be awesome when I'm done. (I am so keeping the shoujo flowers. I forgot how much I missed them until I read an Akira Norikazu comic recently!)
Unfortunately working on this means I'm starting to see a rather disturbing trend in my work. My stories are all about people messing with each others' heads. This might be why I don't have any longterm original characters like most people I know... I'm just too horrible to all of them. XD;;
Howeverrr I am pretty sure I'm in love with Ren'Py as a medium. I never really considered doing solo interactive fiction before, but visual novels seem to be incredibly compatible with what I see in my head when I'm writing a script. Wow, I may finally have something PG-rated to sell at Supanova this year!

Receiving Dog Style volume 2 in the mail spurred me into action - Modoru Motoni seems to draw the most incredible men in the world without even trying. I managed to work on most of this last night while watching the wonderful
kinokofry playing Portal and finished the rest of it tonight while quietly fuming about dog owners and listening patiently to my sister venting about idiot boys. Ah, life. :3
Cover is laid out now, hooray! You still have a couple of weeks to send in something. Don't be shy!
This is the most complete thing I've done in, like, forever... and I'm surprisingly happy with it. I'll be doing a full colour version for an artbook later this year, too.

Today I went to the MCA Zine Fair. A million thankyous to
stikmancomics for letting me turn up late and steal some of your table space!

The fair drew the most impressive crowd I've seen in a while, and that's saying something. It was also the right crowd, which means so much more than a convention attendance figure ever will. I caught up with some friends and oldbies, did some trades and made some really great new contacts. It was a definite improvement over last year's event and it makes me glad I decided to stick to zine fairs and not conventions this year!
mirness, it's a shame I didn't get those books from you in the end - your stuff sold really well and Sweetie from Two Thousand snapped a photo of your Construct-A-Mate cover. I think I finally sold out of Sharp & Pointy, too. Multiple people asked if you were doing an issue 2, so I gently suggested that they nag you about it! Wahahaha :D
rosek, I have no idea why but little old Asian ladies really like your stuff. A couple of them picked up Bajka 1 today and leafed through it smiling and nodding.
I had a truly classic conversation with some guy about why Puppy Love is wrapped in plastic and he laughed (in a nice way) and walked off; five minutes later he came back and bought it (and a copy of Bajka). This can only happen at a zine fair.
Annnd I drew something I liked for the first time in a while! Thank you to
stikmancomics,
monkeydan and
zpxlng for your encouragement; you said three totally different things to me when I whined at you and they all really helped. This is kind of inspired by a really cool tree outside our building... I adore Australian flora.

I wrote this haiku for
jokersama last week, but I can't remember the exact conversation that led to it...
You and your skritches.
Always with the skritches - why?!
Fine, you can have them!
We just spent the last weekend in the Blue Mountains being impressed by fog, birds, fog and THE MAJESTY OF NATURE whenever the fog went away. No really, it was awesome! I travel a lot but I've never been to Jenolan Caves before (only Wombeyan Caves), so touring the Orient Cave was definitely a highlight. Photos to come once I find the camera cable somewhere in this half-unpacked mess we call a home.
This afternoon I think we found our new cockatiel. T^T S/he's 8 weeks old and small and grey and cute and friendly and clambered quite happily all over
jokersama and me and
evilhayama after some initial fluttering. I hope nobody buys hir before I can get permission from the strata management company, but we'll see how that goes when I call 'em tomorrow!
Random main character art, just a colour rough for now:

Of interest to Auscomics people:
1. The esteemed J. Marc Schmidt is interested in collaborating with another artist for a shiny new comic. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you his contact details!
2. I'm taking it easy on the conventions this year (but too bad it's the first time a whole bunch of them have been spaced apart so nicely like this). I'll almost definitely drop in at Supanova Sydney and am contemplating the trip down for Doujicon if interest rates don't come for us first.
3. It's a bit late, but I am sorting out Hayase! meetups for this year. Parking in the area is free on Sundays, so I'm going to try for those this time around - will post some dates on the comm and website soon.

I'm generally down on my character design skills but I do like this set of five (including the two from last entry)!
I cut down the number of chefs from seven to five then four to prevent me from going mad. XD;;;; I'll refine the designs next, particularly the chef jackets, as I decide on their colouring. THE TURBAN IS TOTALLY NECESSARY OKAY. You'll see.
Now to go put my Apple taxes to good use and fumble my way through a .mac Garageband tutorial before bedtime...

I've been roped into an Australian comics podcast! It helps that
fallingforward and
saveded are always fun to talk to, and we have different enough taste that everything gets covered. Here be a web link and here be an iTunes link. It probably won't make any sense if you don't follow Australian comics, though. :{
The new Friends of Lulu anthology, "The Girls' Guide to Guys' Stuff" is out in around July and it has a page by
azahru and me in it. :D I was looking for a page to link to for this plug yesterday, but instead I found the absolute wankstorm that appears to surround people who take the "girls in comics" thing too seriously. Ah well... hopefully more on that when the storm settles down?
My Red Hot Car is ALMOST DONE, for srs. I finished pencilling the rest of the pages last night and hopefully it'll all be wrapped up by next weekend - then I can lay out the full book (including
poshua's pages...
rakugaking, you still out there?) and get covers printed. I've wibbled at
beeblebabe and
tsukikoushi for this before, but really... wow, you let me take more than a year to finish a comic and now I can't seem to stop drawing. *A* And thanks
mrtang for one of the latest bursts of productivity you gave me on Good Friday!
I don't think I really mentioned it at the time, but in October I bought a huuuge laser printer off eBay. Thing's a monster! Nobody believes me until they see it in person! Anyway, the plan is to print all of my smutty comics on that this year.
Have been working on something new but it's at the end of my comics queue. I figure if I do the majority of the work on it now while I'm inspired, I can leave it to cool for a while and come back to look at it objectively. Here be three pics, two of which most of my friends have seen by now:

It's going to be a cliched office drama, but with loooots of little personal touches thrown in. I blame all the silly yaoi manga I've been reading lately.
meteordust gave me some fantastic prompts at the last Hayase! meetup and I'm sure
mirness can give me some great bits and pieces at the next one. XD Speaking of Hayase!, the next meeting is looking to be the 21st of April (next Saturday).
Folks at Brisnova, hope you're having a great time!

This is going to be a very disjointed post, and some of it's kinda gay, but it has pictures like I promised please don't kill me.
First off, I have this theory that putting Solitaire on your technologicalwhatsit will automatically give it an edge in the marketplace. It worked for Windows, it worked for the iPod, it worked for the Nintendo DS, it'll work for the XBox 360. Unless the others cotton on and we end up with six versions of SolEXTREMEitaire, at which point I will blame it on something outside the window behind you.
Pikchoors now. This is kinda image-heavy!
( jauws-tan sighting?! )

( OMG comic page! Slightly lewd. )

We finally saw the Midnight Juggernauts at the Albion Hotel last Thursday! SO GOOD. I can't wait to see them again, hopefully they'll appear on the Good Vibrations lineup. :3
And finally, it's one thing to tell me how motivated you are and how you're going to have a fucking fantastic life in comics, but for god's sake don't expect me to worship you for it. I do things for my own reasons, I enjoy what I do, and trying to tell me otherwise will only make me feel like being even more contrary to annoy you. This sentiment is mostly brought to you buy a guy twice my age who accosted me at Hayase! the weekend before last about my life choices, driving me into a frothing rage. No, I don't care if I'm missing out by not doing political satire. No, I don't care if comics isn't my main job. Maybe I'd care more if comics work provided superannuation?

Click for bigness! The release of really substantial Persona 3 news caused a small explosion on my flist of the good kind. I, for one, welcome our RPG sequel overlords - the opening of the trailer just drips style, the whole thing really keeps the Persona 2 atmosphere and I actually like the 2D blockiness of the interface. No more sprite flailing though. :(

Hmmm... his face changed a lot, but now he looks more like himself (if that makes sense applied to an original character). The previous shot felt like it was in somebody else's style.
The bad thing about having an iTunes Music Store in Australia is that they are now leaning on Bleep.com to block Australian sales of numerous albums before they are available on iTMS.
Bleep: HERE IS A CHRISTMAS E-MAIL WITH OUR FAVOURITE ALBUMS OF 2005
Me: +_+
Bleep: We let you sample the entire track instead of a random 30 seconds. Please buy them if you like them! :D
Me: Need... the new... Arab Strap... album... what, not available in Australia?
iTMS.au: We have two Arab Strap albums but not the new one. HA HA HA.
I still lean strongly towards buying from Bleep because it's cheaper, DRM-free and the artist gets a bigger cut than they do from any other major distribution system. (Also, this magical Christmas e-mail mentions that there'll be a free download in my account just after New Year's Day, which is kinda awesome.) Life has gotten to the stage where if I can't buy a download or find it at JB Hi-Fi, I won't buy your stupid record - I will just go pirate it. Arrrrr.
Edit: Never mind, JB put their catalogue online. OMG. :D~~~
